Salamander is a focus mutation often chosen by players for its great upgrade to mobility for a relatively low cost.
Location
Salamander is located in the Toxic Cave on the Shoreline. Due to its close proximity to Freedom City, the entrance is guarded by Gator Boy, an alligator-skinned boy slightly stronger than the average crackhead found in the crack mansion.
Effects
This mutation grants:
+4 to Swim +4 to Climb +1 to Focus -1 to Craft mend command: Use focus to trade stress for healing and mending broken bones
Advantages
- Available. Salamander is very easy to reach even for very new characters, and provide solid bonuses to mobility and healing.
- +4 Swim, +4 Climb. This practically ensures for any build that they will not have any problems climbing or swimming, and provides a huge boost in early-game.
- The mend ability. Queued ability that takes a couple seconds, requries at minimum about 17 focus to heal 2-3 HP and mend bones, but reaches consistent 6 HP hits closer near 30 focus while costing stress. Has 25 seconds cooldown.
- +1 Focus. This is a minor bonus to ability itself and to focus users.
Disadvantages
- -1 Craft. Even for builds that dump brains, this is a negligible minus, usually countered by Nimble Fingers.
- Not useful for certain builds. If you're brainy, you might have little use for healing ability, and if you're Spears or Fists then Swim/Climb bonuses are of no use. But still ability to mend is welcome in any build as you don't need to wait for trauma kits to proc.
Mend
When used, the user gains a large amount of stress and makes a focus roll. If successful, any broken limbs the user has will be mended, along with the possibility of being healing up to six health based on how high their focus stat is. You will fail if you have max health and no broken bones to mend, resulting in a lot of stress. Mend is incredibly useful for Hideous Freak and Abomination mutants due to the reversal of stress, and may be used as a bursty heal and stress dump every few seconds.
Message Upon Use:
You empty your mind, letting your focus flow into your limbs... <Name> bows his/her/its head and breathes deeply, extending his/her/its limbs.
Message Upon Success:
You feel your wounds pulling together. Kinda itches.
Message Upon Failure:
You couldn't focus due to stress
Message if uninjured (note: you still gain stress):
There's nothing wrong with you that your mending powers could heal.
Appearance
After mutation you will be given an additional line to your description:
He/She/It has webbed fingers.
